National Redress Scheme

3 July 2018 Relationships Australia NT will provide support to anyone who has experienced sexual abuse as a child under 18 years in any institution or school as apart of the National Redress Scheme.

In July 2018, the Commonwealth Government established a National Redress Scheme to provide support to people who were sexually abused as children while in care of an institution. The establishment of the Redress Scheme was a recommendation from the findings of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. The National Redress Scheme is an alternative to seeking compensation through the courts.

The Redress Scheme can provide three things;

  • Access to psychological counselling
  • A direct personal response from the responsible institution (e.g. an apology) for people who want one
  • A monetary payment

Relationships Australia NT can provide information about the Scheme and who can apply. We provide specialist trauma informed support and counselling service through our Darwin and Alice Springs offices for anyone who would like to apply for the Redress Scheme.

We can also help you decide whether you want to apply, fill out the form and support you throughout the application process. We can also connect you with free legal and financial support services.
