Men and Family Relationship Services
There are two specific services for men which are offered by Relationships Australia NT under this Program.
A 12-week course entitled In Pursuit of Respectful Relationships (IPRR) – currently offered in Darwin and also to be offered in Alice Springs from the 2nd half of 2011. This course is useful for men who realise they are doing some things that are damaging their relationships, and want to change their thinking and actions in order to improve this. The course is designed to suit non-Indigenous men and possibly urban Indigenous men. Any man who is interested in doing the course needs to firstly attend an individual information session.
See the attached calendar for details of the next course, to be held in Darwin commencing on Wed 10th August 2011.
Family Business Program conducted within the Darwin Correctional Centre- offered in Darwin only. This program has been developed in partnership with Northern Territory Correctional Services. Most of the men who attend the program are Indigenous, and Relationships Australia NT ensures that whenever possible this program is delivered by a male Indigenous staff member.
In addition, Men's Counselling is provided as part of our general Counselling Program – offered in both Darwin and Alice Springs. Our goal is to support men and boys of all ages to gain understanding and strength in their relationships with partners, children, family and friends. Specific services are provided for men who:
- are dealing with separation or family break-up
- are non-resident parents or are thinking about a new relationship
- have not separated, but who are experiencing relationship difficulties and who want to be a better dad, husband or partner.
The service is also available to wives, partners or family members who are concerned about their husbands, partners or fathers
