Relationships Australia dipping their toes into Mindfulness - Monday 13 August 2018

Participants in the Relationships Australia NT workshop will complete three mindfulness activities aimed at demonstrating how helpful mindfulness can be in how we respond to life. This course is open to anyone who feels they would benefit from learning some simple techniques in quietening their mind and being in the present in Alice Springs.

Relationships Australia NT has introduced a new workshop on mindfulness into their suite of services to assist people dealing with personal and family relationships. “In our complex and busy lives, many of us feel like our minds are scattered, overwhelmed with too many activities, obligations and responsibilities. Add to this the inherent stresses of balancing work and family and we can find ourselves living a life of reaction rather than being measured and thoughtful,” explains Bruce Owens from Relationships Australia NT. Mindfulness is a practice which encourages us to attend to the present moment without judgement about what we notice. “Often our minds are focused on the past or future – we can find ourselves ruminating about the past (usually negative thoughts) or worrying about the future – both may spiral us into a less joyful way of being. “Mindfulness helps remove the clutter in our minds, so that we can think much more clearly about what we need to address in the present.” Participants in the Relationships Australia NT workshop will complete three mindfulness activities aimed at demonstrating how helpful mindfulness can be in how we respond to life.

“Participants should feel more relaxed after this workshop and ready to try something different. “All of us have busy minds and this can mean that we are not always present to what is happening right now. Mindfulness keeps us in the present moment, helps us to connect and therefore have better relationships.”

Relationships Australia Counsellors Bruce Owen and Megan Howie will facilitate “Dipping your toes into Mindfulness” in Alice Springs from 6 to 9pm on Wednesday, 29 August and provide an introduction into the science, practice and benefits of mindfulness. This course is open to anyone who feels they would benefit from learning some simple techniques in quietening their mind and being in the present.
